Types of Lung Cancer
There are two main types of lung cancer, which behave differently and require different handling. They are:
- Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), divided
- Squamous carcinoma : This type is the most common type of lung cancer. It develops in cells that line on the airways. This type of cancer is often caused by smoking.
- Adenocarcinoma: This type develops from the cells that produce mucus (sputum) on the surface of the airways. Type of cancer is more common.
- Large cell carcinoma: The form of this cancer cells under the microscope as the name implies: a large round cells. Often referred to as undifferentiated carcinoma.
- More than 80% of cases of lung cancer is a type of NSCLC.
Mesotheolima is a type of cancer that attacks the mesothelium, a thin membrane that lines the chest (pleura) and abdomen (peritoneum). Sometimes occurs in people exposed to asbestos.
Causes of Lung Cancer
It is known that cigarette smoke is a major cause of lung cancer (squamous type) because it contains over 4,000 chemicals, of which 50 species are carcinogens and toxic. Statistics prove that about 90% of patients with lung cancer are current smokers or former smokers
Lung Cancer Risk Factors, including:
- Male
- More than 40 years of age
- Tobacco users (white smokers, clove cigarette or cigar)
- Living within environmental tobacco smoke (secondhand smoke), radon and asbestos
Symptoms of Lung Cancer
A person belonging to high risk groups (GRT) if you have respiratory complaints like cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, you should immediately see a pulmonary specialist.
Signs and symptoms of lung cancer takes years to be known and is often confused with symptoms of pain in general.
- asphyxiate
- A cough that does not go away (more than 2 weeks)
- Wheeze when breathing in non-asthmatics
- coughing up blood
- Discoloration of the sputum and increased sputum
- Voice changes (becomes hoarse) or rough sound when breathing
- Chronic fatigue and weight loss drastically
- Swelling in the neck and face
- Pain during deep breathing in
